Beautiful You  by Jodi Dupree

I’ve been a beggar

A thief, a liar at war

An addict, pathetic

Unable to take any more

I’ve been arrogant

Proud, a heavenly soul

Following the rules

Perfecting my show
I’ve been in love and lust

Unable to focus or see

Distracted by beauty

High, soaring and free
I’ve known poverty, loss

Lived without a home

Caused pain and grief

Been lost and left alone
I’ve had all the answers

Thought the rules didn’t apply

I’ve blamed everyone else

And lived a disguise
I’ve been fragile, insecure

Done things wrong and had regret

I’ve gained confidence

Had successes, a love I won’t forget.
These colors, these chances

These dances full of grace

Designed for each one of us

To help us somehow see His face
Each life custom ordered

With specific trials and tests

Meant to teach us, help us learn

So we can then turn and teach the rest
Don’t hide who you are

Or the trials you’ve been through

It’s made you who you are

Imperfectly beautiful you

Romans 5:3-5

3 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

1 Corinthians 9:22

“To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.”
